Monday Minute: Last Deep Breath of Christmas Vacation, First Gasping Breath of 2012

I am happy to report that I have spent too many minutes relaxing and playing with the kids today to even record one measly Monday Minute.

That’s all I was going to post for today until I checked my messages and found out that due to a family emergency, James’s spectacular para will not be at school for a while. Needless to say, I am very sorry that his para is having a crisis of any kind. But I am also terrified of how this week will play out for James without her.

I feel like I just went from inhaling the last heavenly aromas of Christmas vacation to searching for breath from this quick punch to the gut. Okay, so maybe I’m being a tad dramatic. But come on, transitioning from vacation to work mode is difficult for me, let alone my ASD/ADD/SPD/you-name-it child. You know, the one who gets worked up if he has to close his book before reaching the end of a chapter, or cries if someone other than his para (including the principal) meets him at the door in the morning.

It’s amazing how quickly ten days of vacation can go while a four day school week can loom like an eternity. So if you’re like me and don’t relish the thought of entering into “real life” again tomorrow, take a deep breath, a sip of wine, and remind yourself that mid-winter break is just around the corner (one of the few perks of the NYC school calendar).

And if 45 days (yes, I’m totally counting) is “just around the corner” then the next week or so should be a cinch, right?
